Earlier in 2015, Highgate Hotels opened The Gates Hotel Key West in Florida. This new boutique hotel in Key West sits at the island’s entrance, welcoming visitors to this sun-soaked paradise.
Offering an intimate setting this new hotel celebrates the island’s colorful history and creative spirit. Mixing contemporary design and retro Floridian flair, guestrooms feature modern amenities that uniquely combine upscale sophistication and polished service with the island’s casual laidback vibe.
The hotel’s lobby features a unique wall of pecky cypress, light woods, and a community table. Guestrooms mix rustic with modern elements with exposed whitewashed beams, custom platform beds of hand-washed cypress, petrified wood tables imported from Bali, and hand-selected rugs. Rum Row, is the hotel’s lively pool, bar and lounge scene. Here guests can kick back in true Key West style with live music, handcrafted cocktails, and regionally inspired tapas. The former Quality Inn has been hugely improved and now offers a luxury modern design which was worthy of a review and a visit. It also offers a regionally inspired food and beverages program.
A unique dining option is The Bling Pig, a new Key West food truck that is permanently parked at the hotel. Dishes include “conch fusion” small bites and tapas inspired by Key West’s Cuban, Bahamian, Caribbean and Floridian roots.
Hop on a scooter or bike and head to Mallory Square for the island’s famous sunset celebration. Find a party, bar or live music performance and lose yourself on Duval Street. Stroll the quiet lanes of Key West’s subdued residential neighborhoods in search of architectural splendor and a sense of peace. Enjoy a sun-splashed afternoon on the beautiful beaches of Fort Zachary Taylor State Park. All of this and more is within reach of this refurbished boutique hotel.
