Donald Trump is opening a new luxury hotel right around the corner from the White House. His new Washington tower will be a luxury property in the space now occupied by the Old Post Office Building on Pennsylvania Avenue.
Said to cost $200 million USD, this Trump Hotel is set to open in mid-2016 and should out-glitz other upscale hotels in the city as well as being one of the largest. Two presidential suites are being built with private, VIP elevator access; at 3,500 square feet each, they’ll be bested in space only by the 4,000 square foot Royal Suite at the Four Seasons, the largest luxury hotel suite in town.
But the main outstanding feature is Trump’s trumping of coveted ballroom space, typically a hotel’s bread and butter, where high-dollar mega-events like pricey weddings and swanky corporate parties can run food and beverage tabs well into the tens of thousands.
Trump International Washington Tower will boast a 13,000-square-foot Grand Ballroom, far bigger than similar spaces at the Hay-Adams Hotel, Four Seasons, Mandarin Oriental, The Jefferson, St. Regis, and even the new Watergate Hotel, which is slated to open this fall. While the renovated and revamped Watergate Hotel has uniforms designed by Mad Men costume designer Janie Bryant, its ballroom is 6,000 square feet smaller than Trump’s.
Size isn’t everything, on my luxury travels, give me a luxury boutique over a luxury mega hotel any day, but in terms of bringing in the dollars, the Trump Hotels Trump International Washington will surely win.
