On our last trip to Venice, staying at their new JW Marriott, I forgot my Kaftan and my husband forgot his swim shorts. At the last minute I always seem to forget one essential or another so I thought I would share my packing list and tips in the hopes of helping you remember everything important for your next getaway.
At the top of my list is passport, money and keys (if all else fails, you need these!) closely followed by glasses, contact lenses, sunglasses, Laptop and iPhone. These are all expensive to replace and if you wear prescription glasses you know they cannot be temporarily replaced at the local supermarket.
Next I try to split my packing into area of my holiday. For the pool (the area I forgot on my last holiday) you need swimwear, sun tan lotion, kaftan and hat.
For day wear you need walking shoes, layered clothing so that you are not too hot during the day and not too cold at night, plus I always include an all purpose boyfriend jumper that I carry with me on the flight as some flights can be chilly after sitting for a while. Also remember shorts if you have kids – essential to avoid overheating.
For evening don’t forget to pack your underwear, heals and a pair of smart shoes for your husband. Again, in the evening I always layer in case of a cool breeze and at this point, add in tights and plasters for any mishaps.
Finally and equally importantly is toiletries. I cannot do without my earplugs in case of a noisy adjoining door, essentials like nail scissors, tweezers, paracetamol, plasters, wet wipes for sticky fingers, makeup and perfume. You will usually find an emergency pack of chocolate biscuits in my case in case I am hungry in the night and am tempted by the mini bar!
Oh and don’t forget your toothbrush. But if you do forget anything, don’t let it spoil your holiday, most things can be replaced and bought when you get there! And there you go. Now you have no excuse not to have a superb vacation.
