Ravenstone Lodge Hotel Review

Book A Stay

Ravenstone Lodge Hotel is a small privately owned 3 Star Country House Hotel situated in the glorious Lake District scenery beneath Skiddaw, between Ullock Pike and Bassenthwaite Lake. This small hotel has a team committed to making your stay memorable. Just a few minutes drive from Keswick in Cumbria, the countryside surrounding Ravenstone Lodge Hotel reflects everything for which the Lake District is best known. From the terrace and conservatory, you can soak up the magical views and between April & September and quite possibly watch the Ospreys circling overhead.

There are two dining options at Ravenstone Lodge. In the converted stable you will find the cozy bar & bistro where you can enjoy delicious food in a relaxed atmosphere. Alternatively, the spectacular Coach House Restaurant showcases the best Cumbrian produce available, cooked to perfection.

In April 2014 the restaurant was awarded an AA Rosette. This award recognizes restaurants serving fresh high quality produce prepared with care, skill, and understanding, which is exactly what Head Chef James Cooper strives to achieve in his kitchen. The menu changes daily to reflect the season and its produce. There are many excellent dishes to choose from throughout the year but whatever you choose we can guarantee that you will taste the difference; this is what food should taste like! Current dishes include: Baked cod loin with a pan-seared king scallop with thyme & potato rosti and sauteed spinach, served with saffron cream and Twice baked cheese soufflé. The Head Chef is James Cooper, a chef well known in the Lake District for the way he uses the wonderful local produce and for his creative skill. His roots are founded in British cooking but his experience takes you well beyond that so expect to find some favorite British dishes but with the odd unexpected twist.

Bedrooms are cozy and comfortable and offer everything you need for a getaway in the countryside. The Stable Bar and Bistro was once the stables to the lodge, around 150 years ago. The stalls & managers have survived intact and make up the interior of the Stable Bar today resulting in it having a unique atmosphere. The Coach House Restaurant was once the Lodge’s coach house.

There are nine rooms in total: two small Double rooms (Rooms 3 & 4), three Classic Double rooms (Rooms 2, 5 & 8), two larger Premium Doubles (Rooms 6 & 7) both of which can be configured as either two single beds or one large double bed and a Four-Poster Room, Bakestall (Room 1) and Luxury Double, High Man (Room 9). These rooms have been named after the various natural features surrounding the hotel. The rooms come in a number of shapes and sizes to suit all needs and pockets with each room having its own distinctive character. All rooms are en-suite and have flat-screen TVs and radios.

The Ravenstone Lodge appeals to visitors to the Lake District and is ideal for couples or friends looking for a base to explore everything the surrounding lakes have to offer – from walks through the falls to cycle paths through glorious Lake District Scenery. Staff will even make you packed lunches for the next day (includes a bottle of water, biscuits, crisps, apple, and a yummy homemade sandwich). Nearby attractions include Honister Slate Mine and The Keswick Pencil Museum.
