If you stay at a Fairmont hotel it is worth joining Fairmont President´s Club which is one of the most generous hotel reward schemes available currently. If you are a frequent traveller this is a great way to get 10 nights in a suite whilst only paying the base “fairmont room” rate. Over the last 10 years I have used many suite upgrade certificates at the Fairmont Monte Carlo snagging myself a fabulous Sea View suite at a fraction of the suite rack rate.
There are 3 levels in the Fairmont Presidents Club. The entry level, next up is Fairmont President´s Club Premier which is awarded to members with 5 stays or 10 room nights per year (1 jan – 31 dec that year). Finally Fairmont Platinum status is awarded to members with 10 stays or 30 room nights per year. If you qualify for Premier / Platinum status before September 15 (ie achieve 5 stays/10 nights or 10 stays/30 nights before this date) you should be awarded status instantly. Status should then be valid for the remainder of that membership year as well as the following membership year. This means that you should get double the certificates and benefits, one set for the current year to use by the end of February, and one set for the following year to be used for a further 12 month period. Fairmont Presidents Club Platinum status is immediately awarded to Canadian AMEX Centurion cardholders – a super perk. Canadian AMEX Platinum cardholders are also fast tracked and will be awarded with Platinum status after completing 5 nights.
Benefits of Fairmont Presidents Club include:
- Complimentary internet access
- Complimentary local calls and no service charge for toll-free calls
- Complimentary health club access (excluding spa)
- Complimentary daily delivery of either local or national newspaper
Fairmont Presidents Club Premier members also receive:

Fairmont Presidents Club Platinum members also receive (in addition to the base level benefits):
- Two room upgrade certificates
- Two suite upgrade certificates
- One free night certificate
- Four $25 dining certificates
- Four Platinum “Passion” benefits
- Guaranteed early check-in and check-out
- One additional free night certificate for every 10 nights after
- completing 30 nights
- Turndown service (At the Fairmont Monte Carlo this includes 2 bottles of mineral water)
- Personalized welcome amenity upon arrival (At the Fairmont Monte Carlo as of writing this is a small box of lovely chocolates and a bottle of Royal Rivierra Champagne) typically fruit basket, chocolates, nuts, bottle of water etc.)
In addition, Fairmont Presidents Club members earn 500 airmiles per stay. Premier members earn 750 miles per stay. Platinum members earn 1000 miles per stay. This includes: Air Canada Aeroplan, Air China PhoenixMiles, Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan, American Airlines AAdvantage, British Airways Executive Club (Avios), Cathay Pacific Asia Miles, Emirates Skywards, Etihad Guest, Jet Airways JetPrivilege, Lufthansa Miles and More, Singapore Airlines Krisflyer, Qatar Airways, United Mileage Plus.
So why is the Fairmont Presidents room or suite upgrade certificate so valuable? Put simply, book a fairmont room (MUST be a fairmont room. If a travel search engine comes up with a stay without specifying the room you may not be able to apply your certificates) and then either upgrade one level with the room upgrade certificate to automatically get the next level of room or a Suite certificate to snag yourself a nice suite.
As an example, in the Fairmont Monte Carlo, you can currently book a base garden view fairmont room and upgrade to a sea view room using a your room upgrade certificate, or a garden view suite (double the size of the room with a separate living area) using your suite upgrade certificate. This hotel uniquely enables you to combine a room and a suite upgrade certificate when it has availability so that you can upgrade from a garden view fairmont room to a sea view suite. And the sea view at the Fairmont Monte Carlo is amazing.
To apply room or suite upgrade certificates you need to call Fairmont President´s Club or contact the hotel directly once you have made your booking and both room and suite upgrades are valid for a stay of up to five nights. Room upgrade certificates cannot be used at the Kenauk at Fairmont Le Chateau Montebello and The Fairmont Royal Pavillion. Suite upgrade certificates cannot be used at the Fairmont Tremblant, The Fairmont Vancouver Airport, The Fairmont Royal Pavilion, The Plaza, A Fairmont Managed Hotel, The Savoy, A Fairmont Managed Hotel and the Kenauk at Fairmont Le Chateau Montebello. Room and suite upgrade certificates cannot be used to upgrade to a Gold room / suite.
Each property has a few blackout dates when room upgrade certificates, suite upgrade certificates and third night free / free night certificates cannot be used. Also, both the Savoy London and the Plaza have imposed capacity controls for using free night certificates. Room/Suite upgrade certificates cannot usually be used on “Great Rates Great Dates” rates but they can be used on Family and Friends rates. Finally Premier certificates are non-transferable but Platinum certificates are transferable to immediate family, i.e. spouse, parents, (adult) children and siblings.
