Temple House is not a boutique hotel, B&B or guest house, but a family run luxury Country House, steeped in history, located in the beautiful Irish County of Sligo. A Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence Winner in 2014, Temple House is set in over 1,000 acres of parkland and woodland overlooking a beautiful 13th century lakeside castle. The hosts: Roderick and his wife Helena go out of their way to make you feel most welcome and they are more than happy to suggest walks and drives around Donegal and the Dingle Peninsula and are incredibly knowledgeable about the local area.
Temple House and the surrounding area has a rich history which Roderick and Helena are happy to tell you about including the castle ruins where King Arthur and his knights spent time to the Perceval family itself which has been at Temple House for 16 generations.
This classical Georgian manor is part of a private estate owned by the Perceval family since 1665 and now offers unique country house accommodation, plus a self catering cottage that sleeps 8. Inside the manor, there are 6 double rooms all with recently revamped private bathrooms. Although shying away from modern technology including television (there are no TV’s in Temple House!) free wifi is available. Room Tip: Try and stay in a room on the corner to get the very best views of the stunning grounds.
Hearty meals are thoughtfully prepared and can be described as country house style, with a modern Irish twist. Ingredients are either grown on the estate or sourced locally and they are always happy to cater for specific dietary requirements if you give them advance notice. At mealtimes, join the party at the magnificently huge mahogany dining table that can seat 20+. Before and after dinner guests often gather in the cosy Morning Room for drinks and conversation beside the fire. Dinner is available every night except for Sunday.
On site there are a wide range of activities to keep you busy from boating, pike fishing, bird watching to wandering in the terraced gardens and enjoying miles of woodland walks. Within easy reach of Temple House, you’ll also find beautiful beaches, eagles flying, archaeological sites, horse riding, trout fishing and four championship golf courses. Traditional Irish music and dancing sessions are also often held nearby.
With such an incredibly warm Irish welcome, Temple House is the ideal get-away-from-it-all destination to stay at whilst exploring Sligo, Leitrim, Fermanagh, Mayo and South Donegal.
