Name: Ballyvolane House
Ballyvolane House, a Trip Advisor Travellers Choice winner in 2013, is a historic Irish country house set in landscaped gardens and parkland in the beautiful Cork countryside of southern Ireland. Originally a classical Georgian home built in 1728 and 120 years later modified with an Italianate style, Ballyvolane offers a charming get-away-from-it-all experience. Your hosts: Jenny and Justin and their staff provide a truly outstanding level of service and are always willing to go that extra mile.
The accommodation is not a hotel, guesthouse or B&B but in fact an elegantly furnished, family-owned period home, offering warm hospitality and extremely comfortable accommodation in a relaxed atmosphere of informality and friendliness. The sitting room, dining room and six luxuriously appointed bedrooms all have beautiful views overlooking gardens, parklands and lakes.
The House boasts six spacious guest bedrooms, each with a good old-fashioned wireless (there are no televisions in the guest rooms!) allowing you to sit back, unwind and forget about the rest of the world. All rooms have an en-suite, some of which feature antique baths.
Dining at Ballyvolane features lots of roasts, fresh and salt-water fish and game in season with home-grown vegetables and fruit from the gardens. Dinners are an integral part of the Ballyvolane experience and a ritual not to be missed, these informal affairs comprise of a 4-course set menu hosted in a ‘house-party style’ with the other guests around the main dining table (there are however a couple of separate tables in the dining room should you wish to dine away from the main group). A ‘The Full Monty’ or continental breakfast is available until noon each day in the dining room and as Ballyvolane doesn’t offer a sit-down lunch you are given a picnic to enjoy wherever you wish. Finally you must experience the afternoon tea with an array of loose leaf tea, herbal infusions, homemade cakes and chocolate brownies.
For those who love the wild outdoors, Ballyvolane House offers a ‘glamping’ option from May to September in the form of bell tents for 4 to 5 people. Ballyvolane Glamping is a fully-catered, fully serviced glamping experience with all meals, drinks and afternoon tea provided in the main house so glamping guests can fully enjoy the true Ballyvolane House experience.
Finally, fishing is a part of the way-of-life at Ballyvolane and salmon fishing on the Cork River Blackwater is truly unique. A proud member of the Great Fishing Houses of Ireland, Ballyvolane offer 8 privately owned beats, stretching from Killavullen to Ballyduff. If you prefer the smaller game of trout fishing, you can try your cast on the recently restored lakes in the parkland. There is also a Fishing School at Ballyvolane, offering a variety of fly fishing courses which provide a fantastic opportunity to learn to fly fish on the renowned river Blackwater with one its most experienced and talented fishing guides.
A stay at Ballyvolane is like a luxurious step back in time to enjoy the very best of Irish country living.
