Wailea is my favourite resort on Maui. Kapalua is similarly upmarket but can be windy and the sea can get rough. Wailea, based on the South Coast has the best and sunniest climate. It has a most enjoyable 1.5 mile palm fringed waterfront path in front of all the luxury hotels and condos, which enables you to ogle into each resort to see what you are missing. Wailea is an oasis of luxury hotels and condos, immaculate golf courses and manicured grounds. The ocean is calm, warm and full of tropical fish, and the coast line is made up from dramatic black lava interspersed with golden sand beaches. To the East you will find the Fairmont Kea Lani, a five star all suite hotel with its own villas. The Four Seasons Wailea and the Grand Wailea with a lagoon full of slides, waterfalls and tropical foliage, lounge on the central beach. To the West and around the black lava peninsula that houses the Marriott, you will find the Hyatt Andaz on yet another perfect beach.
Behind the Marriott you will find the Wailea Shopping Mall, with some clothes shops, including Guess, a mini Mart, a number of restaurants and alot of galleries. It gives you an alternative stroll if you are rude enough to get tired of lazing on the picture perfect beach.
