The Lodge at Koele is located in the Lanai’s volcanic mountains. It is walkable from Lanai’s tiny main village but is not near a beach or the sea. It has an orchid house, stables, golf course, small pool, and an old church on its grounds and has the feel of a pristine British country house without the drizzle.
Rooms are traditional and floral. All have private balconies that vary in size. Request a room with a larger balcony. Some of the great hall premier rooms (specifically 202 and 209) have huge terraces. Toiletries are L’Occitane. Garden delux rooms have sweeping views of the grounds.
Dining is limited three options. The all day bistro style dining on the terrace with garden views (includes breakfast) and live music nightly from 7pm to 9pm. The main dining room opens for the evening only and offers taster menus based around seafood and its estate-grown ingredients. The bar also offers a smaller selection of food. It is traditional in design and offers a complementary popcorn machine with a variety of toppings including butter oil, parmesan and japanese furikake. There are a couple of dining options in Lanai village but this means you have to rely on the shuttle service unless you have your walking shoes. Many have reported slow service at these restaurants where locals are prioritised over tourists.
There is a free 18 hole putting course which is good for kids and adults, as well as croquet and lawn bowling, plus you can feed the fish (ask at the front desk). There is a small outdoor swimming pool right and 24 hour fitness centre. The hikes are excellent directly from the Lodge (see photos) through forest and ending with stunning views from mountain tops.
You can find a number of hammocks scattered around the property for complete relaxation.
The Lodge rooms are due for renovation in 2015, until then the Lodge offers some of the best Four Seasons hotel rates in Hawaii.
