I review the best airline club lounges available at San Antonio Airport, Texas, SAT, which include the USO Lounge and the United Club At San Antonio Airport.

San Antonio International Airport provides commercial airline service for the South Texas region. More than 10 million travelers flew in and out of historic San Antonio in 2018, including Mexico, on 11 airlines. Many of the incoming passengers were visiting for a convention.

San Antonio is the seventh-largest city in the United States, experiencing growth from bioscience, healthcare, and military bases. Military bases include Joint Base San Antonio, the largest base organization in the U.S. Department of Defense, and comprised of Fort Sam Houston Army Base, Lackland Air Force Base, and Randolph Air Force Base. This is why they have a forces-specific USO airport lounge at this airport.

We have already investigated the best hotel club lounges in San Antonio. Now we look at the airport lounges and make a similar comparison.

1. United Club At San Antonio Airport (SAT)

Interestingly, when space is available, this lounge accepts economy guests ticketed on United Airlines who are willing to pay at the door. The door rate is around $60 USD per person. So even if you are an economy class traveler at San Antonio Airport, as long as you are flying United, you can usually access this airport lounge. You will find this lounge in Terminal B, Airside, between Gates B3 and B5.

You can usually but a day pass in advance, or if you have an annual membership like Priority Pass, you can use this, or you can pay at the door (the most expensive option).

This lounge can be accessed for free by United Club and Business/First Class customers, including members and their guests. One-time pass holders will need to provide a same-day boarding pass for travel on United, Star Alliance™, or a contracted partner. OnePass Platinum, Gold Elite, Star Alliance Gold Cards, and Business/First Class Travellers all get free access to this lounge.

What do you get? This United Club℠ includes the following complimentary amenities:

  • Personalized travel assistance
  • Wi-Fi
  • Beverages including select beer, wine, and spirits
  • Breakfast and afternoon snacks

The lounge itself isn’t large but has friendly staff and appears to be clean, with a super bar offering free alcohol, including cocktails. The snacks are good, too. Expect fruit, chocolate-covered raisins, and shortbread cookies. The disadvantage of this lounge is that there is no bathroom within the lounge. But the terminal bathrooms are modern and clean, so the lack of a bathroom should not put you off accessing this airport lounge.

As a United Club member, you can actually enjoy access to more than 45 United Club locations, Copa Club locations, and participating Star Alliance® affiliated airport clubs worldwide.

2. USO Lounge

The other lounge within this airport is the USO Lounge, which is located in Terminal B, Landside, near Baggage Claim. If you are an active member of the military, you and your family can access this lounge free of charge. This lounge is large, with plenty of snacks and free Wi-Fi.
