We love the exclusivity of the Lanai property, the beach is enormous and so quiet, the stars here are the brightest I have seen from any hotel in the world (there’s no light pollution here!), and I love watching the dolphins and whales off the resort beach (Hulopoe Beach). You literally hop out of bed, head down across the gardens and the lawns, head down a private path that takes you through to the beach, and there you are, peace and incredible sea life right on your doorstep!
The Hualalai property is also incredible and has the King’s pool, an amazing and unique resort feature. King’s pond is a saltwater pool full of fish right in the resort. You can snorkel here with the fish in comfort without even having to leave the resort. You can just jump off your lounger, put your goggles on, and jump into the pond with the fish. This resort also has turtles on the beach and outdoor showers in the downstairs bedrooms. Yep, here you can wash outside under the stars!
To be honest, you can’t go wrong with any of the Four Seasons hotels in Hawaii, they are all gorgeous, and you can easily two center your stay to take advantage of the best deals and even stack deals and offers at two resorts during your Hawaiian vacation.
The Cheapest Deals Are At the Fifth Hawaiian Four Seasons
We have not properly reviewed this property, but Four Seasons Resort Lanai at Koele is the fifth Four Seasons hotel on the Hawaiian islands. It will reopen soon, so it will be interesting to see how Four Seasons has refurbished this property. I saw the property before the refurbishment, and it had more of a country house feel than a beach resort vibe.
The lodge is situated on a stunning golf course in the mountains, but the fact that this is not a beach resort and more of a mountain retreat might just make this property the cheapest of them all. It certainly used to offer a much cheaper deal than the Lanai Four Seasons on the beach. I would expect some great 3-4-2 deals at this property when it reopens, and the fact that it is not by the beach (you need to take a minibus ride to the other Lanai property to use their beach) means that this should remain the cheapest Four Seasons hotel in Hawaii.
Of course, no Four Seasons hotel is cheap. They are some of the best hotels in the world with a price tag to match, but this hotel is likely to be cheaper than other options on the Hawaiian islands because of its lack of beach. With this in mind, it is a great way of taking advantage of the beachside hotel (using the minibus) at a cheaper price, at least initially. One thing worth noting is the fact that this resort has a higher altitude, so pack your jumpers as it is cooler in temperature up in the Hawaiian mountains, particularly in the evenings.

Location: On tiny Lanai, an island owned by Larry Ellison. It opened in 2005, renovated in 2016. Probably the most exclusive Four Seasons resort in Hawaii due to its hidden away location.
Size: 168 rooms, 39 suites, and 6 suites.
Reasons To Stay at the Four Seasons Lanai:
- The main beach is huge and virtually empty
- The resort has been recently renovated and has stunning Asian inspired decor
- Nobu restaurant with a super outdoor deck where you can take pre or post-dinner drinks under the stars
- Beach where you can watch dolphins and whales at certain times of the year
- Jack Nicklaus Signature Manele Golf Course, Lanai’s premier 18-hole layout, with a reputation for excellence in design and playability, and unusually, it’s built on lava outcroppings
Promotions: 3rd, 4th, and 5th Night Free, Discover Lanai nightly activity, and spa credit packages. Lanai Explorer packages are particularly good and include unlimited activities, including golf, off-road adventures, tennis, and water sports.
Why shouldn’t you go? The resort is quiet and exclusive, and you will need to hop on an interisland flight to Lanai or take a ferry from Maui to get there. Fly into Maui or Oahu and then make the hop, so this hotel is not massively convenient for a short stay. The resort can also be quiet, and the pools are not as good as the Hualalai Four Seasons.
Four Seasons Hualalai
Location: Big Island, Hawaii. Opened in 1996, renovated in 2009.
Size: 192 rooms and 51 suites.
Reasons To Stay at the Four Seasons Hualalai:

- Private outdoor lava rock showers (ground floor rooms)
- Stunning freeform blackened lava pools, some with sandy bottoms
- Low rise design

Why shouldn’t you go? The resort is quiet and exclusive, and usually flights from the US mainland land in Maui or Oahu, so you will probably need to take an inter-island flight to get to the resort. Once you fly into Big Island, the resort is only a short drive away.
Four Seasons Maui at Wailea
Location: Maui, in the resort of Wailea, the most upmarket and luxury resort of all the Hawaiian Islands. It opened in 1990, renovated in 2015.
Size: 288 rooms, 95 suites.

I actually like the vibrancy of this resort. There is always plenty to do, and the shopping mall, a short walk away, is a great place to stock up with snacks, surfwear, and more.
Four Seasons Oahu at Ko Olina
Location: Oahu, a short drive from Honolulu and HNL airport and Waikiki. It opened in 2016.
Size: 370 rooms, 55 suites.
They say it is where heaven meets earth!
