When the weather is cold, there is nothing better than working out where you could and should travel to next. Top of my list is usually a sandy beach where I can bask in the sunshine and dip my toes into azure blue waters. Here is my pick of the best white-sand beaches in the world and the top luxury hotels to stay in right next to these brilliant beaches.
1. Best White Sand Beaches In The Seychelles
I may be biased, but there is a new hotel in the Seychelles, which will undoubtedly take the top position when it comes to luxury hotels in the Seychelles next to gorgeous beaches.
2. Best White Sand Beaches In The Maldives
A honeymoon is not complete without a trip to the Maldives, and some of the best luxury boutique hotel choices in this slice of paradise include Gili Lankanfushi with over-water bungalows which sit above a wonderful unspoiled reef, Diamonds Thudufushi which also sits on its own private island. The new St. Regis Vommuli Resort, the Maldives, which is the debut of Starwood’s St Regis brand in the Maldives, is also a great choice.
3. Best White Sand Beaches On Zanzibar
This beautiful island is often left off “top 10” lists as it has yet to become a mainstream destination, yet the beaches and reefs here match and even beat many beaches in the Maldives. The Park Hyatt Zanzibar is a great starting point for exploring this island.

This is a tough one, as many of the best beaches in Hawaii are not connected to a hotel or resort. Instead, you need to follow a local down a dusty road to find a secluded white sand experience. The beach at the Four Seasons Lanai is ridiculously beautiful, calm and this beach is very much exclusive to this hotel. On Maui, the most high-end resort in Wailea, and the beach in front of the resort, which can be accessed by several hotels, including the Four Seasons Maui, is pretty darned nice!

Perhaps Cornwall is not a standard choice for a top 10 list of beaches, but on a sunny day, the beaches in Cornwall match the beauty of any other white sand beach in the world. For luxury accommodation above a secluded pirate style cove, remote Cornish retreats do not come much better than Trevalsa Court Hotel.

So many beaches, so little time. It is impossible to choose the best beach in the Caribbean, but if you are looking for a luxury hotel with an idyllic beach, you won’t find better than Amanera in the Dominican Republic by Aman hotels, one of my favorite luxury hotel chains.

For Europeans, the Algarve offers some of the best beaches within a short flight, particularly when compared to the rather brown or even black sand you find in and around destinations like Marbella and the Canary Islands. A wonderful hotel which has a rather Cornish setting – except that it offers guaranteed sunshine – is the Martinhal Beach Resort & Hotel.

This up-and-coming destination offers miles and miles and miles of unspoiled beaches.
